I was recently contacted by a follower of this website with regard to some fabric samples she had in her posession. She had bought them from an employee of the Bath store who told her they were original early prints by Laura Ashley herself. She wondered if I could find out any more for her. She wishes to remain anonymous at the moment but I have her full permission to publish this story and images.
I contacted Brian Jones ( the designer who worked alongside Laura for many years). His response was so exciting. Not only did he confirm the authenticity of the prints he also provided much more information.
The following images are of very early Laura Ashley designs which never went into production. It is possible to see influences of later designs in them. I have also included Brian's responses with his full permission.

"I recognise all these prints, they were all printed on large silkscreens. these would be from 1969 to 1971. I know where she got some of the original ideas from as these were all around the Carno factory when I started work in the design studio. as the printing techniques got more got more advanced, she could print negative and positive versions of the prints..................These are very rare prints
DISCLAIMER - I realise the nursery print contains an image and text which is politically incorrect today and may cause offense. I have shared this as a historical document and do not associate myself with the vocabulary used.
